Questions on hair transplant

Will there be a scar ?

There will be a small crust that forms at each graft site. These will be visible until they fall off about ten days after the transplant. Once the crusts fall off, there will not be any visible scarring. Scars at the donor site will be easily hidden by your hairs. There will be either a linear scar or multiple round scars at the back of your head. A careful examination of your scalp will be necessary to see these scars.

Hair loss in men

Male pattern baldness is hereditary. It causes hair loss in a predictable pattern. The frontal hair recedes creating a higher forehead while a hole appears at the back of the head. Some men will only lose hair in one area. Hair loss begins at puberty. It is impossible to predict how rapidly the hair will fall out, although the more hair you have lost at a young age; the more likely you are to have severe hair loss. Male pattern baldness is caused by a combination of hormones and balding genes. Bald men have hair that is genetically more susceptible to dihydro-testosterone, a hormone produced by a skin enzyme from natural testosterone. These baldness genes are inherited froIm both parents. There is variable expression of the gene so that not all children will be equally bald. These genes can even skip a generation. If you have any bald family members, you carry the gene for hair loss and you may eventually lose your hair. Your baldness will be somewhere between the most bald and the least bald member of your family. For unknown reasons, the hair at the back of the head resists the effects of dihydro-testosterone. The resistance of these hairs is the basis of hair transplantation. Hairs at the back of the head, the crown, will not fall out over time. They can be transplanted to bald regions and they will continue to grow.
