Facial swelling
This is the most common problem
following a transplant. The swelling begins two or three
days after the transplant and lasts two to three days. It
is only water in the tissues and is not dangerous in any
way. Applying ice to the forehead and keeping the head elevated
at all times will decrease the risks and speed the reabsorption
of the liquid. Should you have any swelling, call us for
advice.
Bleeding
Either the graft sites or the donor sites can bleed if you
accidentally remove a scab or if you do not elevate your
head. Take a clean paper towel and apply direct pressure
on the bleeding site with your fingers for two minutes.
If there still is bleeding after two minutes, apply pressure
for ten minutes. Check the time as ten minutes is a long
time to apply pressure. Bleeding will always stop after
ten minutes. If not, call us.
Numbness
around the donor sites
There can be temporary numbness around the donor site. In
rare cases, this can last for several months. There is no
specific treatment, the nerves will slowly recover.
Numbness
around the recipient sites
There can be some numbness around the recipient sites. This
will disappear after several weeks.
Small cysts
Small cysts containing ingrown hairs can develop. Lightly
rubbing them will release the hair. Call us so that we can
treat these for you. If you have multiple cysts, you probably
have an infection, see below.
Infection
